She and her husband were foster caretakers for Rock County, WI children services for many years. She was a longtime former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Beloit and a current member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Union Grove. She was a member of the VFW and DAV, both of Beloit, having served the U.S. Army as a W.A.C. during WWII.

Elva was my Foster Mother from 3 September 1964 - December 1975 at 1716 Wisconsin Avenue, Beloit, WI. Her first husband was Ray Nevel at Elkader, Clayton Co., Iowa. She served as a WAC in WWII, Chattanooga, Tennessee driving vehicles. I do not currently have her 2nd marriage information handy to include at this time. (Petrie or Patrick) Family Christmas Traditions: Watching White Christmas with Bing Crosby & Danny Kaye & opening one Christmas present Christmas Eve. She was a homemaker and babysitter during my twelve years there. She also was employed at McNeeley's Department store in down town Beloit (at least during Christmas time prior to my arrival), as she said that was where she had learned how to make bows. Prior to marrying Floyd, she had dated Ivan A. Johnson (son of Alvin N. & Flossie K. (Donyes) Johnson, who use to live on Highland St. in Beloit. I recall hearing reference to a "Grandma Johnson" but never could figure out how she was related. Now I know, it was not a blood connection, rather a friendship connection.
Floyd and Elva were married, March 31, 1947, in Crown Point, Lake Co., Indiana. (Susie)
