CARTHAGE - Funeral services for Ruth Evans, 89. of the Tanglewood Community were held today. Feb. 10. at 1 p.m. in the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home. Burial was in Smith County Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Evans died Tuesday. Feb. 8, 2005, at Carthage General Hospital.
She was born Oct.5, 1915, in Algood to the late Frank and Laura Davis Goolsby.
Mrs. Evans was a 1933 graduate of Algood High School and was a member of the 1932 Algood High Championship Basketball Team. She was a representative for the American Red Cross in Smith County and operated the local office for 28 years before retiring in 1978. She was a charter member of Carthage Church of Christ.
Her family includes a daughter and son-in-law. Patty and Gerald Piper of the Tanglewood Community; a granddaughter and her husband. Tammy and Steve Harper of the Tanglewood Community; a grandson and his wife, Mike and Laura Piper of Riddleton: and four great-granddaughters. Mia and Candice Harper of Tanglewood Community and Amanda and Leah Piper of Riddleton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband. Fred Evans.
Edward L. Anderson officiated at the services.
