Mr. Carey E. Ferrell Sr., 95, died Monday, december 28, 1998, at The Oaks Residential and Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville following a long illness.

He was born in Roanoke, Va.. He moved with his family to San Mateo at the age of 6 where he lived until 1974 when he moved to McMeekin. He began working at Wattles Printing (now Wattles Office Supply) in Palatka in 1924 and became owner of the business in 1940 at the death of Frank D. Wattles. He continued to operate the business until 1946 when he retired. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of San Mateo and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palatka. He had served as a deacon at both churches. In recent years he had attended the Melrose Church of Christ. He was a former member of the Palatka Rotary Club. He was an avid fisherman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Smith Ferrell; six brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Georgia S. Ferrell of McMeekin; one son and daughter-in-law, Carey E. Jr. and Libby Ferrell of Sanford; a daughter, Sue F. Roskosh of Palatka; a step-son, James D. Simmons of Ocala; two step-daughters, Judith Ann Brick of Spokane, Wash., and Beverly J. Brumbaugh of Gainesville; one sister, Alva F. Phillips of Daytona Beach; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10 a.m. at Masters Funeral Home in Interlachen with Minister Leon Jennings and Minister Danny Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Palatka Memorial Gardens.
