"Burns families of this vicinity are all descendants of Peter Burns and his wife who are buried in Bullnine, Killyane, County Cork, Ireland. To this union was born six sons and four daughters. In 1842, two of their sons, Patrick and Timothy, left their home to come to America to find work and a new life. Each married girls in Boston, who had come from Ireland too.
To the union of Timothy Burns and Elizabeth Barry were born two sons: Patrick in 1853 and Daniel W. in 1857 in Boston. The family then moved to Derrynane Township, Le Sueur County on the land now known as the Joe Koenig far, where 4 more sons and 4 more daughters were added to their family. Timothy, the father, passed away suddenly at the age of 42 years so their mother, Elizabeth Barry Burns, the family moved to a farm about 2 miles west of the village of St. Thomas."
