Flight Lieutenant Hugh Gordon Archibald was born December 8th, 1920 to parents Wesley Gordon Archibald and mother Alice Elizabeth Archibald in Craik, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Hugh grew up on his family's farm in Saskatchewan with brothers Willis and Walter, and sister Joyce. Hugh completed his schooling up to grade 8 and worked as a farmer up until enlistment in the army. He later went onto work with C.P. Telegraphs as a telegrapher.

Hugh served in WWII as a trained gunner, with the Canadian Artillery, R.C.A 13th Field Regt. RCA and was also employed as arty sig GP "C" in England, N.W.E, as an observation post signaler for 5 years working with code and communications. (service number 301128 / L-18423) He served from May 6th, 1941 to October 22nd of 1945. L/BDR Archibald served in the United Kingdom and continental Europe.

His medals of service include the C.V.SM Medal, the Clasp Medal, the Defense Medal, the France Star,the Germany Star, the 1939-1945 star, the War Medal of 1939-1945, and the Canadian Volunteer service medal. Archibald went onto join the Air force in March of 1954. Hugh retired from active duty on September 27th, 1957.

On March 7th, 1944, Archibald married his wife, Doris May Norton in Portsmouth, England. Together they had two daughters, Wendy Barker and Christine Archibald, and one son, Arthur Gordon "Butch" Archibald.

Archibald passed away in Saltcoats Saskatchewan, in
1974. He is survived by his daughters, grandchildren, his sister Joyce and numerous other relatives. He was laid to rest in the Garrick Cemetery in Garrick, Saskatchewan, Canada.
