Sister Marie Genevieve Gruss used to tell hesitant pupils, "You're as bold as a pig on ice."

Gruss, teacher and principal, served seven local elementary schools.

She died Jan. 2 at Regina Health Center, Richfield, from complication's of Alzheimer's disease. She was 92.

She was born Margaret Rose Gruss in Cleveland. She joined the Sisters of the Incranate Word and Blessed Sacrament.

Gruss worked at Incarnate Word Academy, St. Patrick of West Park, Assumption, Our Lady of Good Counsel, St. Anthony-St. Bridget, St. Bartholomew and St. Richard. She also worked in Wellsville, Ohio, and Mexico.

She was known as challenging but compassionate. She anonymously bought Communion clothes for needy children. She kept a brown bag in the lunchroom and encouraged children to put unwanted food inside for the hungry.

SR.GRUSS was the beloved daughter of the late Henry and Marie Gruss (nee Maloney); sister of Eleanor Peace, of Charlotte, NC and the late Marie Lowery, Angela Gruss, Kathleen Dilger, Virginia (Sr. Mary Paul, SIW) Gruss, Rosemary Owens, Henry Gruss, Helen Lowe, Robert Gruss, Frank Gruss, and John (Brother Kevin, CFA) Gruss; aunt of Sister Pamela Owens, CSJ, of Ft. Myers, FL, as well as over 50 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews
