Mrs. Fred Babel Sr. Dies Tuesday
Mrs. Fred Babel, Sr., a resident of Hall county since 1886, died at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and MRs. J. E. Hoye Tuesday morning after an illness of eight weeks. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon in the Methodist church here with the Rev. James S. Chubb of Grand Island officiating. Burial was in the Grand Island cemetery.
Mrs. Babel was born in Warsaw, Ind., on Dec. 26, 1858, to Adam and Elizabeth Mitchell. While still a little girl the family moved to Muskingum county, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to Frederick Babel at Jamesville, Ohio, Oct. 20, 1881, and to this union seven children were born. The family moved to Hall county in 1886 where they have made their home with the exception of 10 years spent on a homestead in western Nebraska. Mr. Babel passed away Jan. 1, 1937. The past five years Mrs. Babel has made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hoye. Mrs. Babel was a life-long member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include two sons, Frederick E. Babel of Santa Monica, Calif., and W. W. Babel of Sterling, Colo.; three daughters, Mrs. Allora Hoye, Wood River, Mrs. Olive Highland, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Gladys Cates, Bremerton, Wash.; 28 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Mrs. Babel was preceded in death by two sons, Charles on Oct. 13, 1924, and Roy April 7, 1948.
