Walter James Newman was born in Michigan as James Walter Newman but raised in England by his parents, William J. and Violet Newman, and spoke with a Brittish accent. He was the Superintendant of Schools for Sarpy County, Nebraska, 1890-91. He signed his name Prof. J. Walter Newman in a letter in my posession. In 1886 he married Bessie Rowles, the daughter of Nebraska Legislator William Donaldson Rowles.
