Ira farmed until 1946, when they moved to California, where he worked in a saw mill. In 1947, he lost his hand in a saw mill accident. He moved back to Boise in 1951 and farmed. In 1952, he married Irene Starr. He farmed and helped run 5 Mile Store until his retirement in 1975. Ira later went to work for Ada County Pest Control until a car accident in 1984 crippled him. He loved the soil and had his little garden up to the end.
Ira was past-president of Ten Mile Riding Club. He was a loving and thoughtful husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors were his wife, three daughters, two sons, two sons-in-law, one daughter-in-law, a sister, 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Ira was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
Services were held at Cloverdale Funeral Home in Boise, Idaho. A full obituary was published in The Idaho Statesman on March 21, 1995.
