He served with the 5th New Jersey through the end of the Spring 1862 Peninsular Campaign, the Second Bull Run Campaign, and the Antietam Campaign before his discharge on November 30, 1862. He had also served as medical officer in charge of the US Army Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia.
