Civil War Union Army Surgeon. He was appointed as Assistant Surgeon for the 5th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 17, 1862, filling the vacancy caused when previous Assistant Surgeon Henry Vanderveer was named Chief Surgeon of the regiment. He served with the 5th New Jersey through the end of the Spring 1862 Peninsular Campaign, the Second Bull Run Campaign, and the Antietam Campaign before his discharge on November 30, 1862. He had also served as medical officer in charge of the US Army Hospital in Alexandria, Virginia.
