Yet Some Must Die
Here we are so far away,
Why we're here only God can say.
So far from homes we used to know,
only He knows why its so.
This is a land so torn with war.
Yet some know not what we're fighting for.
We're here to fight with one thing in mind,
with thoughts of peace we hope to find.
We fought before when the war was on,
and now again in Vietnam.
To all the Marines it's a bitter fight,
but in our hearts we know it's right.
The war is cold and the struggle is hard,
the nights are sleepless and the men are tired.
The days, the weeks, the months go by,
some will make it, yet some must die.
The jungles are thick and the sun is hot,
but this is where the battle was fought.
One by one our men went down,
their bodied littered the bloodsoaked ground.
We prayed for those who met their end,
for many were close, too close a friend.
And after these men are laid to rest,
we'll continue the job which they did best.
And when the job is finally done,
we can say that we were one,
One who helped to free this land,
to make it forever peaceful again.
