Jan left us unexpectedly on Jan. 28, 2013 after a short but fierce battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She fought valiantly, maintaining her sense of humor and legendary fierce strength until the end. She passed peacefully, with her son James, daughter-in-law Debra and friend Ann by her side.

Jan is survived by her children James, Jerry and Melissa, her grandchildren Alec, Curtis, Hayley and Taylor and her beloved dogs Cricket and Crackerjack.

Jan was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She worked in a variety of roles in the pharmaceutical industry, selling musical instruments, and at Cash America, where she was a store manager until declining health caused her to step down. During her years as manager she was a trusted mentor, tutor and confidante for many of the younger staff, who adored her and respected her fiercely independent nature.

She lived in many places: Wichita Falls TX, San Jose CA, Reno NV and South Carolina before settling again in Reno.

Jan was multitalented. In her younger years she created some beautiful crafts using a variety of mediums, including acrylics, gold leaf and decoupage. She was a fantastic cook. She was a national champion amateur roller skater, winning many awards. An expert seamstress, during her skating years she sewed her skating costumes and did the same for many others. She was a meticulous housekeeper and dresser, very fashion conscious with an excellent eye for color and coordination in her clothing and furniture.

Jan loved nothing more than her late husband Bill, whom she now joins in eternity. She was also a Wizard of Oz fanatic with a huge Oz collection. She also loved music, particularly Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand.

Jan travelled to many places, including sites all over the United States, China and Ireland. The highlight of her travels may have been the trip she took to Italy to watch her son James sing at the Vatican in Italy, along with his choir.

Jan will be remembered for her sense of humor, her candor, her independence, her strong will and her impeccable taste in fine things. She was an inspiration to many people and she will be missed by many, including her fellow Cash America employees, her Bunko partners and her dogs.

Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery, Reno, NV.
