Robert D. Combs, Sr., 69, of Pomona Park died Tuesday June 29, 2004 at the Putnam Community Medical Center in Palatka following an extended illness.
He was a native of Jacksonville and had been a resident of Pomona Park for the past 49 years, coming from Jacksonville. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He worked for Central States Diversified in Palatka for 38 years, retiring in 1992 as a machine operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pomona Park, where he had served as a deacon and song leader. He had been an avid fisherman. He was a good husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawton Combs; his mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Ralph Trice; and two sisters, Mildred Guinn and Helen Arline.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Alvers Combs of Pomona Park; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert D. (Teriann) Combs, Jr. of Tallahassee; one sister, Frankie Hill of Green Cove Springs; and one brother, Willard Combs of Mobile, Ala.
Calling hours will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 1 at the Masters Funeral Home of Palatka.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, 2004 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Munson officiating.
Burial will follow in the Palatka Memorial Gardens with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Navy.
