Mrs. Gilkey was born Lucille Sarah Harrison on May 22, 1910, in Iowa. She moved to Portland as a teen-ager. She was a textile worker for Portland Woolen Mills until moving to the La Grande area in the 1940s, where she was a rancher for about five years. She returned to Portland in 1950 and was a homemaker. She later was an assembler for a company that made bankbook covers and other plastic folders. In the mid-1930s, she married Russell Gilkey; he died in 1984.
Survivors include her sons, David R. and Dale; and one grandchild.
