Mr. Aaron Allen, 49, of Greenhill, lost his fight with esophageal cancer on May 6, 2006, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, and a member of Shiloh Church of Christ, of which he loved. He was a member of IBEW LU 558 and was employed by TVA at the Power Service Shop for 20 years.
Mr. Allen was a 1975 graduate of Rogers High School. His senior class chose him as The Friendliest of his class. They also honored him with the distinction of Mr. Rogers High School. During his high school career, he played football, baseball, basketball and ran track.
Big "A" was loved by so many for his kind and caring heart and his wonderful sense of humor. He loved nature and the outdoors. There was nothing he loved better than being with family and friends while water skiing on the lake, snow skiing in Colorado or enjoying Alabama football on a sunny afternoon in Tuscaloosa or Birmingham. Big "A" was also a member of The Red Elephant Club and an Alabama scholarship donor.
Mr. Allen was extremely close to his immediate and extended family. Family was important to him. He is survived by his parents, Henry and Minerva Allen; his sister and her husband, Judy and Mike Kirk; two very special nieces, Hope and Katie Kirk, of whom he dearly loved. He has numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who will greatly miss his loving smile. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmie and Tamsie Coker and Jim and Mary AllenMr. Allen's family would like to thank Hospice of the Shoals, the many friends from TVA who so kindly contributed sick leave, and all the love that friends and family have shown through his illness. A special thanks goes to Babs.
Visitation was Sunday, May 7, from 5 until 8 p.m. and will be Monday, May 8, from noon until 2 p.m., at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m., with burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Officiating will be Tim Grigsby and Howell Bigham.
Pallbearers are Barry Coker, Mickey Coker, Tony Holt, Harry Stovall, Steve Nicholas, Dewayne Davis, Johnny Rutland and Ralph Richey.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Matthew Coker, Greg Coker, Rex Coker, Wade Coker, Brad Coker, Roger Downy, Doug McDonald, David Scoggins, Ronnie Hovater, Bobby Nicholas, James Wyle, Randy Wall, Paul Machtolff, Anthony Doxie, all of the crane and elevator inspectors at the service shop and all of his special friends.
