Stephen was born in San Francisco to Glen and Lois Shirk on May 5, 1967. After living in Modesto and La Mirada, CA in the early years of his life, the family settled in Ripon in 1981. Stephen continued living in Ripon after he married Cassandra Muniain in 1992 and helped raise their four boys, Devon, Bobby, David, and Brian.
Stephen was heavily involved with Ripon Grace Church in Children's Ministries as well as continuing his love of music by working in the sound booth. In every aspect of his life he glorified God, including during his journey with Colon Cancer. He would say he was "living" with cancer, not "battling" cancer.
Stephen went home to be with his Lord Jesus on February 5, 2013 surrounded by loved ones.
Graveside services were held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Wood Colony Cemetery in Salida and a memorial service on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at 11:00 am at Almond Valley CRC in Ripon.
