Austin Man Is Killed After Struck By Car


A 59-year-old Austin man was fatally injured about 7 a.m. Monday when he was struck by a motorist as he walked along U.S. 31 just north of Austin.


Dying en route to Scott County Memorial Hospital at Scottsburg was Green Brandenburg, according to Scott County Coroner James Buchanan.


Buchanan said Brandenburg was walking to his job at the Morgan Packing Company plant when he was struck by a northbound auto driven by Mrs. Ellsworth Chandler, of Austin.


Funeral services for Brandenburg will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Buchanan Funeral Home at Austin. Burial in Campbell Cemetery on Austin RR. Friends may call at the Buchanan Funeral Home after 7 o'clock tonight.


Brandenburg was a native of Lee County, Ky., and had moved to Austin in 1946. He was a member of the Austin Church of Christ.


He is survived by his widow, the former Lucy Smith; two sons, Lowell Brandenburg of Richmond, and Charles Brandenburg, of Centerville; two daughters, Mrs. Ora Gilbert and Mrs. Christeen Shearer, both of Richmond; three brothers, Cash and Russell Brandenburg, both of Irving, Ky., and Willis Brandenburg, of Hamilton, O., and one sister, Mrs. Sudie Blackwell, of Beattyville, Ky.


He was a member of the Austin Church of Christ.
