He was born in Lima, graduated from St. John's school and attended St. Louis university Mo., and St. Joseph college, Rensselaer, Ind. He was a member of St. Joachim's Catholic church, the Holy Name society and was employed in the offices of the Nickel Plate railroad in Chicago.
Surviving are his widow, Agnes, four sons, Cpl. Joseph Altenbach, overseas, Cpl. Thomas Altenbach in Italy, Pvt. Albert Altenbach, Camp Butner, N.C., and Gerald Altenbach, student at St. Meinrad Seminary, Ind.; one daughter, Catherine, Chicago, and one granddaughter, Mary Catherine Altenbach, Chicago; mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Altenbach of 127 W. Vine-st.
Services will be conducted in St. Johns Catholic church with the Rev. Albert A. Fate as celebrant, at a time to be announced. Burial will be in Gethsemane cemetery.
The body will be removed from the O'Connell and Doolin funeral home Thursday morning to the home of the parents, 127 W. Vine-st, where it will remain until time of services.
