Thurman Walker Hinton, age 81, passed away February 18, at the Medco Nursing Home in Campbellsville, KY. He was born July 28, 1926 in Powderly, KY, the son of Ida Johnson Hinton and Elmer B. Hinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters; one daughter, Barbara Hinton Allen; and one son, James Edward Hinton.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Dorothy Baker Hinton; two daughters, Ida Hinton Doss (Gerald) of Columbia, KY and Belinda Czap (Rick) of Indianapolis, IN; one granddaughter, Barbara Jo Yager; four grandsons, Wayne Reeves, Joel Ray Baxter, James Hinton Jr. and Josh Hinton. Four great granddaughters, one brother, Curtis R. Hinton of Central City, KY and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Hinton enlisted in the Naval Seabees in 1944 and served in WWII in Okinawa from 1944-1946. He was a retired millwright from local 1003 in Indianapolis and resided in Columbia since 1995.
He was a member of Plum Point Baptist Church.
He donated his body to the U of L School of Medicine to further the field of research.
There will be no memorial service per his request.
