Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a recruit Private in Company I, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on February 24, 1864. Captured by Confederate forces during the brutal fighting that marked the Spring 1864 Overland Campaign in Virginia, he was imprisoned at Camp Sumpter in Andersonville, Georgia, where he died of "diarrhoea" (dysentery) on July 27, 1864.

Born in 1835 in Orange, Essex County, New Jersey, he was 29 years old at enlistment with dark complexion, dark hair, 5' 9", hazel eyes

He married Margery C. Fitch on September 6, 1853 in Jackson, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. They had 3 children:
