P. A. Campbell, Retired Executive, Dies

Peter A. Campbell, for many years affiliated with the H.J. Bool Furniture Company of this city, died Saturday, July 19, after a long illness. He was 83 years old.

Born in Canada, a son of the Rev. Andrew (s/b John Calvin) Campbell, a Presbyterian minister, and Mrs. Campbell, he came to this country at an early age. He began railroad- ing in the days of wood-burning locomotives. He later became an engineer.

When his step-father, the late Henry Bool, founded the firm of H. J. Bool Company, Mr. Campbell left the railroad to work with him and eventually became president of the firm. He retired in 1930, when the business was sold to Markson Bros. Inc.

He was a member of Ithaca Lodge, 71 IOOF, and was a past noble grand. When the site for the new State Home on the Trumansburg road was chosen, he was a member of the committee.

In 1927 he was a candidate on the Democratic ticket for the office of supervisor in the Town of Ithaca.

He is survived by one son, Donald A. Campbell of Chicago, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Fred A. Wilcox of Ithaca; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Orcutt of Owego, Mrs. William Ostrum of Olean, and Mrs. Olive Burr of Dryden, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services be held at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday at the home of his daughter at 134 Linden Ave., with a later service at 2:15 p.m., at the Christian and Missionary Alliance on N. Plain St. The Rev. Fred Spence, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
