Daughter of Roy R. and Myrtle Watkins Cox
1st husband Woodrow Stanislaus
2nd husband Eugene Cummings

Rachel L. Cummings died March 24, 2005 in Chanute, Kansas.

Rachel married Eugene "Gene" Cummings on September 15, 1959, in Eureka, KS.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene Cummings. Rachel is survived by one son and one daughter; Don and Reva Jean, both of Chanute, KS; two stepdaughters, Victoria, of Tucson, AZ, and Beverly, of Lawrence, KS. She had several grandchildren.

Rachel, and her husband, owned and operated Cummings 96 Station on Highway 96 (now US 400) near Fall River Lake for years. Rachel was an important part of the operation.

Rachel raised pure bred Siamese cats and sold them to her customers at the station. People came from all over to purchase them.

After Gene's death Rachel continued to operate the station. Finally deciding to close down and be near her children, she moved to Chanute, KS. The station was eventually demolished for the construction of the new US 400 Highway. The new building they had built was destroyed by fire after the stations closing. Little trace remains of the "Cummings Corner". The Greenwood County Commission had named the road, on the east side of the station, Cummings Road after Gene's death. If you watch for the sign sometimes it's there, as it is often stolen.

Graveside services were held March 24, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at the Weakley Cemetery, New Albany, KS.

Timmons Funeral Home, of Fredonia, KS, were in charge of services. With Rev. Gene Benefiel officiating.

Rachel is missed by her loved ones and loyal customers of the station.
