Mrs. Amanda Jane Adams passed away in the Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman Thursday morning at 6:15. Thus ended the earthly career of a pioneer resident who had lived the past 45 years near Van Alstyne. To her was granted the unusual distinction of living a decade and two years past the allotted three score and ten, and leaves to mourn her passing eighty-four descendants.
The final tribute for Mrs. Adams will be heard in the funeral services in the First Baptist Church this afternoon at two o'clock. Conducting the service will be the Rev. R.W. Prince of Sherman and Rev. Frank Johnston of Gainesville. Her grandsons will be active pallbearers.
The remains will be interred in the City Cemetery. She was a member of the First Baptist Church here. Mrs. Adams was born on June 6, 1868 in Franklin County, Georgia, the daughter of Alfred and Katheryn Aaron. She was the widow of the late J.W. Allen.
She is survived by seven daughters: Mrs. Jim Kemp and Mrs. Don Whitaker of Van Alstyne, Mrs. Cecil Wheeler of Gunter, Mrs. Goody Smith and Mrs. Cecil Morrison, Mrs. G.C. Fields of Dallas, Mrs. Tom Hay of Cortez, Colorado; by three sons, Lon Adams of Van Alstyne, Wesley Adams of Banning, California, and Jessie Adams of Notrees, Texas; by one sister, Mrs. R.C. Westbrook of Commerce; also by forty grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
