Frances Shotwell Bean
Virginia Beach - Fances Shotwell Bean departed her life Tuesday, January 22 surrounded by family at Sentara Norfolk General. Born and raised in Colonial Place, she was a cheerleader at Maury High School. She majored in Library Science and Education with a Masters degree and advanced certification from ODU. Frances retired after 30 years with the Chesapeake School System where she fascinated children with her remarkable story telling ability. She was an avid golfer and long time member of Kempsville Greens Ladies Golf Association as well as Cypress Point golf club where she lived. Frances was an accomplished bridge player and enjoyed playing regularly with her bridge group. Frances was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Stanley Shotwell and sisters Joan Prochaska and Helene Johnson. Left to cherrish her memories are her husband Thomas Bean, daughter Pamela Harris and husband Don of Virginia Beach. Sons Charlie Roughton and wife Rhonda of Avon, NC and Paul Roughton of Wilmington, DE. Also, a loving step daughter, Jennifer Kirk and husband Austin of TX.,eight grand children and two great grand children. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 26 at 2 p.m. at Haygood United Methodist Church, 4713 Haygood Road Virginia Beach, VA 23455. The burial will be private.
