Hilary Benedict Mohs was born February 5, 1904, at Richmond, Minnesota, and came of age in St. Cloud. Larry was a free-spirit and is listed as an actor who lived with his parents at 227 14th Avenue North, in the 1927 St. Cloud city directory. He attended St. Cloud Teachers College, as is shown in the yearbook picture on this memorial. Indeed, he was a prominent comedic stage actor in the local Cathedral Players in St. Cloud during the 1920s and 1930s. Acting didn’t pay the bills, though, and when the 1930 census was taken, he was among a group of roomers on St. German Street and managed a collection agency.
On August 25, 1937, at Northwood, Iowa, he married Annadell M. Chapell – née Meyer. She was born December 12, 1912, at Barnesville, Minnesota, and was the daughter of Joseph Meyer and Anna Rogers. Anna was divorced from her first husband, Dwight S. Chappell, with whom she’d had a daughter, Nancy. Dwight and Anna married around 1930, and he ran a hotel in Winona. In 1934, Larry worked in Winona for the Bonded Credit Co., After Anna and Dwight divorced, she, her daughter, and Larry moved to Mankato in time for her 1937 marriage. As of 1939, the three lived in San Jose, California, where he worked for Assured Credit Service. But by the next year, they’d returned to Minnesota and lived at Rochester, south of Minneapolis. He worked as a solicitor for the Olmsted County Business Assoc. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1942 and served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged on August 30, 1943.
Larry and Annadell divorced during wartime. The 1944 Minneapolis directory has her as an assistant to A. W. Arnold and living at 3524 Nicollet Avenue, while Larry was a collector at 4005 Garfield Avenue. A St. Cloud newspaper story in 1947 states that he lived in New Ulm, Minnesota. In the early 1950s, he was in Pennsylvania, where he managed the offices of Credit Control Association, Inc. in the city of Johnstown. In 1957, he lived in Los Angeles, then moved to San Francisco the next year. Larry was listed in the 1959 San Francisco directory when he roomed with his brother, Joe, at 140 Ellis Street.

After divorcing Larry, Annadell married and divorced twice, first to a man named Stokes and in 1959 to Arthur E. Quantrell, a divorced and wealthy owner of Quantrell Cadillac in St. Paul. They divorced at the end of August 1967. Annadell Meyer Quantrell died November 8, 1994, in Minneapolis, at the age of 81.
