LT Bobby Gene Ansley was born 6 November 1943, in Washington, Georgia, to John Henry Ansley Sr. and Maggie Jewel Aycox Ansley. He lived and attended school in Dearing, GA. He graduated from Harlem High School, Harlem, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia, Athens, Georgia. He joined the US Navy in 1965 as a member of the Medical Service Corps. He attended college and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Medical Service Corps. He was promoted to Lieutenant and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, Onslow, North Carolina when he died in a automobile accident.

He married Cecilia M. Lopez in 1968 and they were divorced in 1970. He married Eddie Fay Payne in December 1970. They had a daughter Barbara and he adopted Eddie Faye's daughter Audra.

He was survived by his wife Eddie Faye and his daughters Barbara and Audra. He also was survived by his parents Henry and Jewel Ansley, his sister Carol Ann Ansley Brooks and brother John Henry Ansley Jr.

He was buried with Military Honors in Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.
