WESLEY CHAPEL — CEKADA – Joseph F. Jr., 74, Wesley Chapel, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. Born March 1, 1938, in Johnstown, son Joseph and Mary (Vautar) Cekada. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Rose Mary. His death ends a 49 1/2-year union to wife, Carol (Hughes) Cekada. Also survived by sons, Kirk, Johnstown; and Paul (Cynthia Wargo), Windber; and brother, Michael J. Sr.; and nephew, Michael J. Jr., both of Johnstown. Member of St. John Gualbert Cathedral, where he enjoyed helping out until he was unable to do so. Lifetime member of Conemaugh Firemen's Club. Joe was a graduate of the former Johnstown Catholic High, Class of 1957; and attended Mount Assisi Monastery (Franciscans, Third Order Regular); St. Francis College, Loretto; and Johnstown Area Vocational-Technical School. He retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Rod & Wire Division, and was a former employee of the State Highway Department. After retirement, Joe worked for five years at Appledale Golf Course, Ebensburg. Joe was very handy and completed many home repairs and renovation projects throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing from his boat, gardening, hunting, woodcarving, working outdoors and vacationing. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Henderson-Makuchan Funeral Home, 434 First St., Conemaugh, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Gualbert Cathedral, the Very Rev. Father James Crookston, celebrant. Committal, Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests memorial contributions to St. John Gualbert Cathedral.
