Hassel Thompson Rogers, 77, of 281 Andra Drive, Ridgeway, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.

He was born Jan. 3, 1934, in Patrick County to Rouche and Mary Smith Rogers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie and Hubert Rogers; and three sisters, Nell Watkins, Lillie Kipps and Elsie Burton.

Rogers served as a paratrooper in the Army, and he had owned and operated several Laundromats in the area.

Surviving are his wife, Jane Rogers of the home; a brother, James Rogers of Norfolk; a sister, Kate Edwards of King's Grant in Martinsville; and three nephews.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor T.J. Phillips officiating. Military honors will be by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard and representatives of the Army.

The family will receive friends at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home for one hour before the service Thursday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
