Services Are Held In Avinger For George Alford

Jefferson, Dec. 12-- Funeral services were held Saturday at the Methodist Church for George W. Alford, 67, who died at his home near Avinger after a lingering illness.

Mr. Alford was born in Morris county, near Daingerfield. Services were conducted by the Rev. Robert Everett, pastor of the Methodist church in Avinger. Internment was in the Avinger cemetery.

Mr. Alford is survived by his wife; nine children, Joe Alford of Avinger, Mrs. Ira Andrews, Longview, Miss Nina Alford, nurse at the Charity Hospital, Shreveport, Marcus Alford, Avinger, William B. Alford, Camp Shelby, Miss., George W. Alford, Jr., Duncan Field, San Antonio, Jimmie Alford, in the navy overseas; five sisters, Mrs. T. C. Lyster, Naples, Mrs. T. W. Shockley, Avinger, Mrs. R. B. Foster, Hughes Springs, Mrs. I. C. Wright, Texarkana, Mrs. Mont. Godfrey, California; one brother, Walter Alford, of Hughes Springs; and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Haggard Funeral Home, Jefferson.
