Another of the pioneers of McLean County has gone to his long home, in the person of William Rust, Sr., of Randolph's Grove, who died on Sunday last. He has lived in McLean County between 35 and 40 years, coming here from Tennessee. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 and was in the Battle of New Orleans, under General Jackson, a matter which the old gentlemen frequently mentioned with pride. He died at the residence of his son, John Rust, west of Lytleville, and was buried on Tuesday in Passwater graveyard, Randolph. his sons who survive him are James, John, William and Harvey, and two daughters, Mrs. Lindley and Mrs. Hoffman.

William and Nancy McGee were married 3 January 1811 in Granville County, NC. The obit suggests that William died on Sunday August 24. The date of the stone is being used.
