Florence Belle Earle Payne

Florence Belle Earle Payne, born in Antwerp, N. Y., 1883. Her parents were Silas
Wright Payne, born in Antwerp, 1847 and Florence Earle Payne, born in Edwards. She
moved to Gouverneur when six months of age. When of school age, she attended Union Free School and subsequently the High
School. Was a student of St. Lawrence University, graduated
from Cornell University in 1905. She became an Episcopalian at
Ithaca in 1904. Albert Rickman, relative on the mother's side,
was a member of the early council of the city of Albany. Her
great, great, grandfather, Elisha Smith, was a Revolutionary pensioner. Her great, great grand-father, Thomas Tanner, served in the French and Indian War and later in the War of Revolution. He participated in the Battle of Long Island, where he was taken prisoner. She is a descendant of Roger Williams.

Florence B E Payne Her grandfather and father served in the War of the Rebellion
and a great, great uncle in the War of Mexico. The Earls, Miss Payne's relatives on the
maternal side are related to Lord Lytton, author of Owen Meridith.
