Nicolai Eidem was born to Norwegian immigrants, Brynhild and Anders Andersson Eidem at the family farm close to Marietta, MN. (Anders was my g.g.grandfather Bardo Eidem's younger brother.) Nicolai was the 2nd of three born to the couple. Nick was fluent in Norwegian and English, and grew up helping his father farm. In addition to those three children, his mother immigrated with three small daughters, having been widowed in Selbu, Norway.

Nick was a handsome, hard-working, humble, generous and easy to like man, all his life.

Nick got an engineering degree. July 6, 1931, Nick and Zelda Snook were married in Cottonwood Cty, MN. They had an adventure of a life-time when they decided to move to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1935. Nick had excellent work through the years with the University Extension Service. They adopted two small boys, Richard and Jerald Eidem.

Nick and his family loved Alaska -- camping, exploring and generally the rustic frontier life.

When Nick's health diminished in 1980, he and Zelda returned to Minnesota. After Nick died, Zelda went back to Alaska to live with their son Jerry Eidem and family where she died. They are buried together in Minnesota.
