On July 31, 2016, I received an edit request from findagrave member Cindy Cornwell McCachern, #46810811, asking that I add Marvel's middle name as Marietta. I have noticed several family trees in ancestry.com that give Marvel's middle name as Marietta; however, I have noticed that many of them give her middle name as Marie. I checked Marvel's death record at the Wapello County Court House, and it only gave her middle initial "M." All of the records that I found online for her, including her birth record only gave her middle initial, and her obituary did as well. I have decided to accept this edit, but I do not know for certain what Marvel's middle name actually was.

There was an obituary for Marvel in "The Ottumwa Courier," of July 30, 1998.

She married Ernest "Doc" Hoover in August 1947 in Jefferson County. Marvel attended Albia Road Baptist Church and worked for 44 years at the John Morrell & Co.

She was survived by a son, a stepson, two step-daughters, 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two stepdaughters, Delores Lambert and Betty Jacquinot; a stepson, Harley Hoover; a brother, Ormel Pottorff; and a grandson, Tony Armstrong.
