Mechanic Dies of Crash - James Wallack Injured in Dec. 6 accident

ELGIN -James J. Wallack, 43 year old Rockford mechanic, died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 1952 in St. Joseph's hospital, Elgin, of injuries suffered in a truck accident Dec. 6 on U.S. highway 20 near Harmony.

An attending physician said death resulted from severe internal injuries and shock. Kane county coroner L. Victor Peterson scheduled an inquest for 2 p.m. today in the Schmidt funeral home, Elgin.

Wallack, a mechanic for the Over-Nite Motor Service, Inc., 3600 W. State St., Rockford, was a passenger in a truck driven by Carl W. Henson, 720 Pacific Ave., Rockford, when the accident occurred. Henson, who was uninjured , said he was forced off the highway by an oncoming truck. The Rockford vehicle hit a stump and turned over, throwing both of its occupants into a field.

James Wallack, son of Mason and Vina Schwan Wallack, was born May 3, 1909 in Dixon. He married Icle A. McConnaughay Oct. 8, 1927, in Linden, Ill. and resided at 2820 Arthur Ave., Rockford. Survivors include: his widow, Icle A.; a son, Richard, 23; three daughters, Beverly Joan, 20, Rojene, 14, and Susan, 7 and his mother, residing in Dubuque, Ia. Services at 1 p.m. Saturday in Rockford Gospel tabernacle with the Rev. Gerald Boyer, pastor, officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Julian-Poorman Funeral Home, 304 N. 5th St., from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
