Funeral services for Mrs. Mertie Gay Warren, 64 years of age, were held Friday, February 17 at 2 p.m. from the home near Feathersburg with the Rev. Jess Campbell in charge. Burial was in the Callahan Cemetery. Mrs. Warren, daughter of the late Nancy Josephine and Little Berry Cox, was born March 29, 1886 in Adair County. She died at her home near Feathersburg Wednesday, February 15 at 5:30 p.m. after a short illness. She professed faith in Christ at an early age in life and was a member of the Christian church. She united in marriage to Bert Warren some 50 years ago and to this union eight children were born. Two children preceded her in death. Besides her husband, she is survived by six children, Mrs. Docia Woodrum, Mannsville; Mrs. Floy Lawson, Merrimac; Mrs. Biddie Howell, Lebanon; Mrs. Nora Wheatley, Ravenna, Ohio; Mrs. Maple Stauers, Indianapolis, Ind.; and Mrs. Liddie Tucker, Elkhorn, Route 1. Also three sisters, Mrs. John W. Sapp, Route 1; Mrs. Stella Cox, Marion County; and Mrs. Della Garrett, Merrimac; six brothers, Arthur Cleave Cox, Elkhorn, Route 1; Delbert Cox, Merrimac; Darlas Cox, Mannsville; Arlus Cox, Mannsville; Al Cox, Medora, Ind.; and Asby Cox, Merrimac. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Ernest Woodrum, Lesley Lawson, Bernard Lawson, Thomas Howell, Charles Howell, and James Vires. Flower girls were Mrs. Grover Carroll, Mrs. Letha Davis, Mrs. Bert Campbell, Mrs. Docia Sallee, Mrs. Georgia Gabehart, and Mrs. Lizzie Carroll. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, February 23, 1950
