Mr. Alban was a Metallurgical Engineer at Fairfield Manufacturing Company for 36 years; retiring in 1983. Following his retirement he continued his work as a consultant, a speaker and held seminars.
He was born August 4, 1918 in Cashmere, Washington, the son of Arthur and Emma (Kienholz) Alban. He attended elementary school at Moscow, Idaho and Wallace, Idaho. He graduated from Jenkins High School, Chewelah, Washington in 1936. He attended
Washington State College, Pullman, Washington from 1936 to 1938, majoring in Mining and Metallurgy.
He married Faye Porter on October 3, 1943. Mr. Alban spent two years in the Navy in the Pacific Arena. After that he entered Purdue University and graduated in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
As Metallurgist, he has written many articles on the "Heat Treatment of Gears" and also on "Failure Analysis of Gears" published in Technical Journals. He has membership in The American Society for Metals (ASM International), Society of Automotive Engineers (S.A.E.) and International Metallographic Society (I.M.S.). He is registered in "WHO'S WHO IN ENGINEERING"; is a charter member of the Purdue Chapter, A.S.M.; charter member of A.S.M. "Heat Treating" Technical Division Council; member of S.A.E. Fatigue Design and Evaluation Committee. He has authored a book entitled "SYSTEMATIC ANALYSIS OF GEAR FAILURES".
Mr. Alban was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church of Lafayette. He had held offices of Church Chairman, deacon and taught adult Bible classes. He recently has conducted a weekly Bible Study Class at Westminster Village. He has been an active member of Gideons International for over 45 years. He not only served at the local level but was also on the state cabinet. Other affiliations include the Noon Optimist Club, Toastmasters International, and MCL Koffee Klatch. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest desire was to serve his Lord. Surviving with his wife, Faye of 69 years, are a son, Donald K. Alban (wife, Rosemary) of West Lafayette and a daughter, Beverly J. Nix (husband, Timothy) of Normal, Illinois, 2 grandchildren, Brian and Michelle, and a great-granddaughter Eve. Preceded in death by 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Although Lester was the oldest child in the family, they all preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 2 p.m. service Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Hippensteel Funeral Home, with Pastor Stacey Littlefield officiating.
