Richard Bradley McComb was born in Indiana around 1830. He married Rachel Jane Perry on Christmas Day 25 Dec 1856. Together they had 8 children: twin boys Edward and Edgar, Jennie, Josephine, James, Mary, Emma, and Grace.


R.B. McComb volunteered to fight in the Civil War, enlisting as a Sergeant in the Illinois 54th Infantry company B on 21 Nov 1861. He saw continuous action and was even taken as a prisoner of war by the Confederates. He mustered out as a 2nd Lieutenant on 15 Oct 1865.


He died on July 12, 1884 at age 54 years & 9 months.


The Piatt County Republican reported on 30 July 1884 that, "R.B. McComb was buried at the Mackville cemetery last Thursday. A large number of the grand army boys of this place and Tuscola were in attendance at the funeral ceremonies."


R.B. was a beloved husband and father, a soldier, and a farmer. He is still remembered and admired by his descendants to this day.
