Jewel Mathis Swanson, of Valdosta, GA passed away at her home on her 85th birthday, Monday, January 28, 2013. She was born January 28, 1928 in Howe, Oklahoma,a daughter of the late Atlas A. and Ada Levada Edwards Mathis. Mrs. Swanson was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Water Valley, MS.

She is survived by six sons, William A. and wife Shirley McCormick of
Lindale, TX, Jimmie D. and wife Gail McCormick of Quinlan, TX, David L.
Swanson of Los Angeles, CA, Robert E. Swanson of Cullman, AL, John P.
Swanson of Nashville, TN, and Nathan Doyle and wife Caryn Swanson of
Toccopola, MS; one daughter, Nancy J. Swanson of Valdosta; a
daughter-in-law, Lila T. Swanson of Pontotoc, MS; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Inez
Mathis Maynor of Lake Charles, LA. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, James Powell Swanson; a son, Paul A.
Swanson; three sisters and six brothers.
