St. Petersburg Times, published April 8, 1998:
... An internal investigation conducted by the DEP found that George Heuler... exhibited poor conduct in the field and at a January public meeting.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has already questioned Heuler's professionalism. That problem started when the EPA asked him to gather slag from neighborhoods and test it to see if the substance had the same contaminants as slag on the former Stauffer Chemical property, which is now a Superfund site.
... DEP began investigating Heuler that same month after ... Heuler laughed at a woman with cancer during a Jan. 12 public meeting. The meeting at the Tarpon Springs Community Center was called to provide residents with information about radiation, and Heuler was in the audience.
... Heuler laughed at Tarpon Springs resident Marion Cody, who has cancer, .. Cody was yelling at him during the meeting. Cody believes that slag in the base of her home caused her cancer.
