BETHLEHEM — Bertha May (Harper) Alexson, 90, of Bethlehem, died peacefully Friday, January 25, at her home on Orchard Avenue, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of William Frank Alexson, Sr.

Mrs. Alexson was born February 1, 1922, in Naugatuck, the daughter of the late Stephen and Bertha (Durette) Harper. She moved to Bethlehem when she married in 1946 and had lived here for 67 years. She loved driving the tractor, baling and raking hay and sawing wood with her husband on the family farm. They were always together and she's happy now that she's with him again.

She enjoyed playing the piano and keyboard and was self-taught. She loved dancing, especially dancing the polka with her husband. She loved her extensive cow collection, a herd of more than 1,000.

She leaves five children, William Alexson, Jr., of Torrington, Anthony Alexson of New Preston, Ann Alexson Ibbotson of Burlington, Thomas Alexson of Oakville and Stephen Alexson of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph Harper of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Robert Harper of Naugatuck, and two sisters, Lucille Baummer of Naugatuck and Mable Harper of the Lutheran Home in Southbury.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Stephen Harper of Germany and Ellwood Harper of Florida, and two sisters, Jeanne Perugini of Beacon Falls and Beatrice Harper Bradford of Naugatuck.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 2, at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to the service. Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
