HARRIET LUCRETIA ABBEY MOSHER
daughter of Henry (or Harry) and Eva (Ingersoll) Abbey, born September 3, 1816, in Guilford, N. Y.; died February 23, 1897, at Falconer, N. Y. She was a woman of more than ordinary ability and took a prominent part in church and social affairs. She was founder and first president of the Pine Hill Cemetery Association of Falconer and on each recurring Memorial Day her grave is specially decorated.
She married at Ellington, N. Y., 1844, EPHRAIM MOSHER, born May 8, 1802, in Oppenheim, Fulton County, N. Y., son of Peter and Mary (Rarrick) Mosher; died January 15, 1875. He was a descendant of Ensign Hugh Mosher, who settled in Salem about 1636; was a friend of Roger Williams and followed him to Rhode Island, settling in Westerly. Ephraim Mosher was one of the foremen of a pioneer construction gang on the Erie Canal between St. Johnsville and Buffalo, and later steered the first canal boat between Lockport and Brockport. It was upon his suggestion that Governor Clinton decided upon the plan of having a row of cannon placed within "hearing distance" apart across the state, between New York and Buffalo, to flash the news of the completion of the great enterprise. Mosher accompanied Governor Clinton's historic boat, departing from Buffalo at 10 A. M., the morning of October 26, 1825, leaving the boat at Little Falls, whence he returned the same day with a cargo of household goods, the first boat-load of merchandise to reach Buffalo from the eastern part of the state over the canal. The story goes that this first boat-load of household goods went to Chautauqua County, where Mosher settled near Worksburg.
Ephraim married (1) Maria Helmick, who was the mother of four children: Catherine, Margaret, Ephraim, and Ezra MOSHER
He married to Harriet Lucretia ABBEY, in 1844
