Agnes Rosalie Samples, 93, went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2012. Agnes was born April 29, 1919, in Blue Creek, West Virginia. When she was just a toddler her family traveled to Wichita Falls, Texas, where her father, William L. Abbott, worked in the oil fields. Agnes graduated with honors from Spencer High School, Class of '39.

Agnes married her beau, L. Orvis Samples on December 24, 1941, just seventeen days following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Orvis served in the Army's 106th Infantry Division. He was initially stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where Agnes worked for stock brokers, Abbott, Proctor and Payne.

They lived in Holley Lawn in Belle, for fifty years and moved to DuPont City in 1999. They were members of the Judson Baptist Church. Orvis retired from E. I. DuPont and passed away in 2002. Agnes retired from The Diamond Department Store.

Both were members of the Order of Eastern Star, Salina Chapter No. 81 in Malden. Agnes was a Past Worthy Grand Matron. Orvis was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 27 and member of Beni Kedem Shine No. 7. Agnes was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine No.77 in Charleston and was Captain of the Ladies Patrol Team, marching in numerous parades as well as designing winning parade floats annually from 1983 to 1989.

Agnes was Past President of Belle AARP Chapter 4551. As well as being an alumni of the Silver Haired Legislature. She enjoyed gardening and being outside working in her flower garden. Summer always brought tomato and cucumber plants. She loved painting landscapes and her favorite medium was oil and on occasion, acrylic. Her many paintings adored her home as well as her children's'.

She is survived by her three children; Larry Samples, wife Carolyn, Stephen, wife Tammy, and Shari Leadman, husband Michael, half brothers Bobby Criner, and William Lawrence, Jr., former daughter-on-law Jeanne Hatcher Samples and seven grandchildren; Cindee McDonald, husband Richie, Holley Samples, Erin Samples, Kem Rosario, husband Romeo, Lori Speakman, husband Danny, Dena Liston, husband Scott, and Michael Dain Leadman, wife Ashley.
