Paul Eugene Lyons , a Lewiston resident and retired design engineer, died Monday of congestive heart failure at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. He was 82.
He was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Vernal, Utah, to Charles William and Sarah Mary Pope Lyon . He graduated from Uintah High School in Vernal and attended Pasadena Junior College in Pasadena, Calif.
Lyons joined the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served in the Coast Guard in the 1940s.
He worked for Hughes Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif., in the 1940s as an engineer.
In the 1950s he went to work for Hoffman Electronics in Los Angeles, Calif., as a design engineer.
During the 1960s he worked for North American Aviation in Downey, Calif. He worked for the Apollo program as a design engineer.
He retired in the late 1970s.
He married Helen Sermos June 16, 1984, in Lewiston.
Lyons was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife at their Lewiston home; two sons, Paul Wayne Lyons of Paradise, Calif., and Richard Charles Lyons of San Francisco, Calif.; four brothers, Charles W. Lyon of Modesto, Calif., Richard Lyon of Rescue, Calif., Myriel (Jim) Lyon of Kaysville, Utah, and Lloyd Lyon of Salt Lake City, Utah; and one sister, Marie Keding of San Bernardino, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Lyon and Wayne Lyon ; and two sisters, Margaret Barclay and Ruth Perkins.
A graveside service will be held Friday at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dick Riffle of Orchards Community Church will officiate.
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
