Obituary - Waseca Herald - Apr. 27, 1937
Heart Attack Proves Fatal To Popular Waseca Merchant
A host of friends in this community were shocked today on learning of the death of C. A. (Barney) Prechel, which occurred at 11:30 a. m. He suffered an attack of the flu on Tuesday of last week and had been under the care of a doctor. He was up town yesterday, was pronounced out of danger and planned to return to the store this afternoon. About 11 a. m., he called to his wife, who was upstairs, telling her the mail man had arrived. When she came down a little later, he lay unconscious on the floor near the couch in the living room. A doctor was promptly called and pronounced death due to a heart attack.

Carl Albert Prechel, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Prechel, was born on a farm in Wilton township on May 27, 1884. After completing the country school course he went to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he took a business course and remained two years. On his return he was employed in the Leuthold clothing store, He later entered the employ of the Larson Bros. Clothing Co., where he remained after the death of E. L. Larson, until he and Chris. Martinson purchased the business on May 23 of last year. He has since been the senior member of the clothing firm of Prechel & Martinson. His happy, cheerful disposition made him a host of friends who sincerely regret his untimely death and tender their sympathy to his bereaved family.

On June 16, 1909, he was married to Miss Agnes Witte of this city. He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Miss Beverly Prechel, who teaches in Benson, and Miss Lois Prechel, a stenographer in Minneapolis. Two brothers and five sisters also survive. They are: F. W. Prechel of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mrs. Ida Boring of Milwaukee; Mrs. John Schmoock of Good Thunder; Mrs. Geo. Scholljegerdes, Sr., J. A. Prechel, Miss Augusta Prechel and Mrs. Henry Daehn of this community. He and Mrs. Daehn were twins. Funeral arrangements are not completed, but the time has been set for 1:30 p. m. Sunday at the home, 413 Third Ave. N. E., and 2 p. m. at St. John's Lutheran church where he had worshipped and has been a member of the church board for many years.
