Eliza A. Brown was born near Clarksville, Missouri October 11th, 1823 and died April 29, 1911, hence at the time of her death was 87 years, 6 months and 18 days old. Her father Randolph LaForce, was born in Virginia and her mother was born in Kentucky. Both died while she was quite young.
In the year 1844 she came to Wisconsin with a married sister. There were few white women around New Diggings, where she resided, at that time. She was married to Seaton Bethel in the year 1846. To this union one son was born, James W. Bethel, who died at Clarion, Iowa 1890. Seaton Bethel died in 1848. She was married to Joseph Winskell in the year 1849. Mr. Winskell departed this life Feb. 21, 1856. To this union three children were born: Caroline, who died in infancy, M.L. Winskell of Benton and Mrs. O.M. Townsend of Denver, Colorado. Her three brothers and three sisters preceded her to the better world. She was married to Nimrod Brown Oct. 10, 1861. To this union one daughter was born, who died at the age of 21 months. After this marriage they moved to Benton where they resided for ten years. In 1872 they again removed to New Diggings where she resided until 1905 again removing to Benton. Her last husband Nimrod Brown, passed to the Great Beyond March 16th, 1896 at New Diggings.
A short service was held at the home the remains were conveyed to the Primitive Methodist church at New Diggings which she helped build a few years ago. The remains were laid to rest in the New Diggings cemetery.

Eliza and Seaton had one son, James W. Bethel (1847 - 1890). James married and moved to Iowa. Seaton Bethel d. 1848 in New Diggings, WI.
The following year, Eliza m. Joseph Winskell. Joseph was a miner born in England in 1821. Eliza and Joseph had three children, Melvina b. Sept 1850, Horace Laforce Winskell (1853 - 1941) and Octavia Winskell Townsend (1855 - 1912). Horace stayed in Lafayette County. Octavia moved with her husband Louis Townsend to Denver Colorado. Joseph Winskell d. 1856 in New Diggings, WI.
