Ethel Sexton Smith, 87, of Irvin Street, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday (Jan.26) at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor D. Michael Lee of Paradise Ranch will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from Noon to 8 p.m. with the family receiving guests from 6-8 p.m. at West Funeral Home.

Cora Ethel Walker Sexton Smith was born to Harrison and Willie May (Gruff) Walker on October 3, 1925 in Princeton, WV. Ethel and Mack Henry "Rocky" Sexton were married December 5, 1942 also in Princeton, WV.

After moving to Carlsbad in 1963, Ethel worked at both Roper's Drapery and Black's Pharmacy. She then worked for Corner Drug and Advanced Medication for many years prior to her retirement in 2011. She married John R. Smith in Las Vegas, NV on December 15, 1994.

Ethel was known as an avid sports fan and her two favorite teams in the world were the Carlsbad Cavemen and the Baltimore Ravens.

She is preceded in death by Mack H. Sexton, John R. Smith and son, Mack H. Sexton, Jr.

Ethel is survived by sons: David Lee Sexton and wife Lynn and family of White Hall, MD and Robert C. Sexton and wife DeDe and familly of Carlsbad, daughter, Billie Mae Merchel and husband Ted and family of Essex, MD, step-daughter, Vicki Bowman and husband Shelby and family of Pensacola, FL, 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Josh McMillan, Jason McMillan, Nathan Teel, William McCauley, Mike Teel and David Thompson, honorary pallbearers are Neal Dungan, Danny Cross, Reynaldo Lopez, D.J. McCauley and Pete Patton.
