Son of Freeman H. & CassCildia (Minnick) Borland.
The family moved to Red Cloud, Nebraska and then to Beatrice, Nebraska. Floyd attended school in Yuma and Red Cloud. As a youth Floyd worked on a farm near Bennington, Nebraska. He later moved to Columbus and worked for local farmers. He married Olga Janssen on January 15, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church (14 miles north). They purchased a farm near Humphrey, Nebraska. Floyd served on the school board at District #52 in Humphrey. In 1954, Floyd and Olga moved to Murdock, Nebraska where they farmed until May, 1976 when they retired and moved to Columbus.
While living in Murdock, Floyd was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was on the church board and maintained the church grounds and cemetery, and a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. Floyd currently was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, yard work, gardening, and was a general "fix it" man.
