Funeral services for Mr. Artis Joe Phillips will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Collier-Butler Funeral Home. Mr. Phillips passed away Jan. 22, 2013. The Rev. George Dunn will officiate. Mr. Phillips was a native and lifelong resident of Altoona and the oldest living member of Altoona First Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and South Pacific.

He owned and operated Phillips Paving Company, retiring in 1985.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Tura Saye Phillips; sister, Lucille Phillips (Grady) Stanfield; and brother, Drexel (Dovie) Phillips.


Surviving Joe will be his beloved wife of 64 years, Irene Lee Phillips; sons, Joe Phillips Jr. and Terry (Cheryl) Phillips; grandsons, Brandon (Kayla) Phillips and Matthew Phillips; granddaughters, Lindsay Phillips (James) Kelley and Jessica Phillips; great-grandchildren, Madie and Alice Phillips; and brothers, Grover Phillips Jr. and Bill (Betty) Phillips.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Phillips, Matthew Phillips, Gary Phillips, Ricky Nash, Bud Hilburn and Richard Anderson.

Burial will be at Altoona-Walnut Grove Cemetery.

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, Jan. 25, from noon to 2 p.m. until the hour of service.
