Tolbie was born May 10, 1943 in Jackson County, Kentucky, to Marshall and Rheba (Gabbard) Mcfarland and attended Harrisburg High School. He had been a mechanic from 1967-87 for the former Winship John Deere Implements at Rushville and also had worked at Heeb Farms.
Survivors include his mother, Rheba, three brothers, Carl McFarland of Falmouth, Ralph McFarland, and Rick McFarland of Connersville and one sister Edith James of Connersville. He is preceeded in death by his father, Marshall, a sister, Judy McFarland Musselman, two nephews Jackey Ray McFarland, Kyle McFarland, and one neice, Lisa McFarland.
Tolbie had recently been married then divorced but reared no children of his own, however he loved his neices and nephews like they were his own.
