Wabasha County Herald; Nov. 24, 1910
Joseph Bootz, whose death was announced in our last issue, was born on a farm near Nelson, Wisconsin, in October 1881. Several years later the family moved to the vicinity of Wabasha and here he spent his youth and grew to manhood.
About ten years ago he left Wabasha and followed the occupation of cook, working in various lumber camps in the northern woods. He made occasional visits here. he was last employed in a camp about seven miles from Grand Marais, near the shores of Lake Superior, where he was taken ill with pneumonia and died Tuesday morning, Nov. 15th.
The remains arrived here Saturday evening and were taken to this home on the west side, from which place the funeral was held Monday afternoon at two o'clock. Rev. Thomas billing officiated, and the Reads Landing choir assisted. Interment was made in Riverview cemetery.
The deceased is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Bootz; his sisters, Mrs. Henry Wodele of Wabasha Hill and Mrs. Albert Zahn of Brainerd, Minn.; his half brothers, Fred and Charles Bootz of Mowbridge, Canada, and his step sister, Miss Rose Walker of St. Paul. They were all present at the funeral, as were also George Donant of Brainard, Minn., and Jacob Meetmesser and daughter Alice of St. Paul.
Joseph Bootz was well liked by all who knew him, and his many friends sincerely regret his early demise. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the community in their sad loss.
